
And The Winner Is... July 23, 2009Minotaur’s maze exhibit, Survivor: Jamestown , is the recipient of the AASLH Award of Merit, the nation's most prestigious award recognizing achievement in the preservation and interpretation of local, state and regional history.
It’s no surprise to those who have experienced this exhibit at their institution, like Fred Farris, the Deputy Director at Virginia Living Museum. For Fred, Survivor Jamestown goes way beyond a history lesson. “We’ve never had an exhibit like this,” Fred shares, “ that all ages have truly enjoyed.”
The AASLH Leadership in History Awards, now in its 64th year, is the most prestigious recognition for achievement in the preservation and interpretation of state and local history. Awards for 2009 represent 59 organizations and individuals from across the United States. Award winners will be honored at a special banquet during the 2009 AASLH Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Saturday, August 29.
The AASLH awards program was initiated in 1945 to establish and encourage standards of excellence in the collection, preservation, and interpretation of state and local history throughout the United States. The AASLH Leadership in History Awards not only honor significant achievement in the field of state and local history, but also brings public recognition of the opportunities for small and large organizations, institutions, and programs to make contributions in this arena. << more news |
